Documentary with The NEW MASTERSOUNDSPublished on Mercoledì, 13 Ottobre 2010
Renown UK deep funk band THE NEW MASTERSOUNDS is set to appear in the feature film documentary "Coals to Newcastle - The New Mastersounds: From Leeds To New Orleans", which follows the group as they bring the funk back to a post-Katrina New Orleans during Jazzfest 2007. The film sees The New Mastersounds visit the city that many consider the birthplace of funk (Eddie Bo, The Meters, Lee Dorsey, The Gaturs) and gives a compelling portrait of New Orleans' struggle to retain its culture in the face of the hurricane's devastation. Accompanying the viewer in this journey to the largest city in the state of Louisiana is the powerful soundtrack, which, need we say it, includes some of the best tracks by The New Mastersounds. The documentary has already been screened in various festivals in the US and there's talk of a DVD release at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2011.
You can check out a preview of what the film is about in the trailer below, which also includes remixed NMS track "Drop It Down (B rmx)" from the album "New Mastersounds Re::Mixed", out now on RK and available on CD/2LP/Digital Download (previews in the player to the right). For more information on this documentary don't forget to check out the film's website here and the facebook page here, and stay tuned, the next British invasion is gonna be funky!
