ITALIAN SPIDERMAN follow-up?Published on Giovedì, 28 Ottobre 2010
Following the success of low bugdet internet series ITALIAN SPIDERMAN, whose trailer was seen by over 3 million viewers on youtube alone, Australian TV channel SBS has commissioned directer Dario Russo with a new six-part action/comedy series with the support of the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC). "Danger 5" is described to be 'a pulp magazine inspired 1960s interpretation of the Second World War', and follows the adventures of 5 secret agents on a mission to eliminate Hitler. Production of the series commenced on 18 October 2010 and the show will be launched at the BigPond Adelaide Film Festival in February 2011, with the first television broadcast on SBS anticipated for later the same year.
Dario Russo first caught the attention of the SAFC when he produced a trailer for a non-existant film as his final project at Flinders University (check it out below). "Italian Spiderman" was publicized as an actual Italian action film from the late 1960s, and gained a massive following on youtube. With mainstream media taking interest in the trailer, the South Australian Film Corporation decided to give filmmakers funding for ten more short films. No doubt part of the reason of such success can be attributed to the original score by Enzo Bontempi (aka Dario Russo himself), released on Record Kicks/Soulful Torino as a double-sider 45 (of which very few are left in stock) featuring the killer R&B garage dancer "Italian Spiderman Theme" on side A and the groovy "Bangarang" on the flip ( buy the 45 here), as well as an "Italian Spiderman EP" with two extra tracks available via Digital Download only (in the player to the right).
Now shut your mouth pussycat and fammi un macchiato, pronto!
