Record Kicks is thrilled to announce the addition of UK funk & soul veterans THE BAKER BROTHERS to its roster of artists. Following the release of a very successful album on Freestyle Records, The Baker Brothers return with a brand new single OUT NOW in advance of the official Nov. 8th release date ONLY here at RK. "Once I Had A Friend" / "Once I Had A Friend (Instrumental)" is available on 45/Digital Download and is a cover of an ultra-rare modern soul stormer by Curtis Robinson on M Records, also included in Kon & Amir's compilation "Off Track Volume 1: The Bronx" on BBE Records.

The Bakers' version of this single is just as killer as the original, and has already accumulated quite an amount of praise. Indeed The Baker Brothers have a lengthy list of references behind them, accumulated in over 10 years of experience, with names such as ?uestlove (The Roots), DJ Muro, Keb Darge and Jazzman Gerald (Jazzman Records) among their fans, as well as radio support from the likes of Mark Lamarr (God's Jukebox on BBC 2) and Craig Charles (The Funk & Soul Show on BBC 6). This 45 confirms what many already knew, The Baker Brothers got Soul with a capital S!

"Infectious tune!" - Oliver Korthals (Mojo Club)

"Thumping modern with all the right ingredients to cause a stir on the dancefloor" - Jazzman Gerald (Jazzman Records)

“Great production on this slice of vocal funk jazz... Very, very nice!” - Dr. Bob Jones (Future Soul)

“Bloody hell very nice! Top tune!” - DJ Ian Wright
