THE UNDERBELLY live performance at Jelly JazzPublished on Mercoledì, 05 Maggio 2010
Pete Isaac's legendary Jelly Jazz party, one of the longest running club sessions and a real soul&funk institution in the UK, is celebrating its 17th anniversary this Friday May 7th! For the occasion Jelly Jazz is moving back to its original location in Plymouth, where all the festivities will be taking place at The Hippo from 8pm onwards. The event includes the original Jelly Jazz DJs Pete Isaac and Griff spinning the funk, while RK band THE UNDERBELLY will be laying down some heavy-hitting breaks and beats live!
The Underbelly are an uptempo raw funk band that gained a certain notoriety by playing at various Jelly Jazz events. They soon caught RK's attention and were signed to the label, hooked up with Roxie Ray (known for her work with Dojo Cuts), and put the finishing touches on a series of tracks that resulted in a full-length album called "Seven Feet Under", out now in all the best stores worldwide on CD/LP/Digital download. The album was anticipated by 45 "I Keep Heading On" / "Cold Toast", as well as the The Underbelly non-album track "Red Flames" which appeared on the "Mò Record Kicks" compilation.
Fresh from a fabulous sell-out concert with Roxie Ray at The Eden Project last month, The Underbelly also recently played a live session on The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show on BBC6 Music. With the support of DJs such as Pete Isaac and Craig Charles, it is no surprise the band has been enjoying a considerable amount of praise from critics and listeners alike. So if you're in the area of Plymouth don't miss this chance to celebrate one of the most successful party nights with one of the most energetic live funk bands!
Happy Birthday Jelly Jazz!
