Updates on DOJO CUTS and vocalist ROXIE RAY

Published on Mercoledì, 27 Gennaio 2010

Much has been going on in the world of DOJO CUTS since their inception back in late 2008, including a non-stop series of gigs (such as the recent show opening for Japanese super group Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro of Jazzman Records), an Internationally released single and album, a series of collaborations for vocalist Roxie Ray and a bunch of new killer funk and soul tracks to be included in their second album planned for release in 2010.

Dojo Cuts’ debut full-length not only put the group on the map as one of the hottest heavy funk units today, but also won them praise and support from such DJs as Craig Charles, Nik Weston, Rob Luis, Lanu and Diesler, as well as famed NYC producer Gabriel Roth (Daptone records), who wrote the liner notes of their album, which he says will “secure their place among the heavyhitters of today’s funk and soul bands”. This debut was included in the top 5 soul/funk albums of 2009 according to Soulfulbits internet radio, which is also planning to do a Windows media guide special on the group.

In the meantime the powerhouse that is Ms. Roxie 'The Vox' Ray has also been ultra-busy recording and writing on a few other collaborative projects, such as Lack Of Afro, Milano Jazz Dance Combo, and Ray Lugo’s L.E.S. Express. Speaking of which, two new LES singles featuring Roxie are set to drop in May, and new RK group The Underbelly will be showcasing her vocals on three different tracks of their debut album coming out in March, anticipated by the release of 45 “I keep heading on feat Roxie Ray” / “Cold toast”. Miss Ray is also about to embark on a lengthy European tour which will see her perform in a series of concerts, such as the Lack Of Afro album launch party at Cargo in London on March 20th, as well as The Underbelly live session at the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show on BBC 6, April 10th from 7-10pm.

Also in the pipeline is an Afro Funk Orchestra made up of a few members fro The Cuts called The Liberators, and of course their highly anticipated second full-length album, so expect to hear much more from DOJO in the following year!
