The Kuti and Washington collaboration is a powerful melding of Afrobeat and spiritual jazz—a meeting of minds and movements where both artists, known for their social commentary, come together with purpose. Washington’s sax amplifies Kuti’s lyrical urgency, creating a transcendent rhythmic call to action that overwhelms the senses with revolutionary positivity from every angle.

His four bodies of work to date— The Epic”; Harmony of Difference”; Heaven and Earth”, and Fearless Movement” —are among the most acclaimed of this century. Seun Kuti is the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. He has spent most of his life preserving and extending his father’s political and musical legacy as the leader of Fela’s former band Egypt 80. As a developing saxophonist and percussionist, he entered the formal ranks of the band before he was 12. In 1997 when Fela passed, in fulfilment of his father’s wishes, Seun assumed the mantle as head of Egypt 80 and he has run it ever since. During his career, Seun Kuti released 5 albums with Egypt 80 and collaborated with many great artists such as MC extraordinaire Black Thought, Janelle Monae, Talib Kweli, MadLib and Damian Marley. His latest album is Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head), praised by critics as “his greatest and most powerful yet.”

Gaudi & Don Letts Remix of Seun Kuti’s ‘Dey’ feat. Damian Marley Out Now!

Music collaboration of the year, Seun Kuti feat. Damian Marley’s single ‘Dey’ gets a dub remix by Gaudi & Don Letts. Listen here: https://recordkicks.lnk.to/DeyRemix

In June 2024 the release of ‘Dey’ feat. Damian Marley, the first single taken from Seun Kuti & Egypt 80’s new album ‘Heavier Yet’ (Lays The Crownless Head)’, marked an historic moment for African unity and art: the Kuti and Marley families collaborating for the first time ever on a record. The highly anticipated cooperation created a bridge between Nigeria and Jamaica and captivated audiences worldwide. Now Record Kicks unleashes ‘Dey (Gaudi & Don Letts remix)’, an infectious “dub remake” of the track courtesy of production duo Gaudi & Don Letts that is now available on all digital platforms.

Grammy nominated dub producer and solo artist Gaudi, whose distinctive work for artists including Steel Pulse, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, The Orb, Horace Andy, Groove Armada, Tricky to name but a few, has topped charts around the world. Iconic Grammy Award winning film director, musician and radio broadcaster Don Letts‘ career includes work with The Clash, founding Big Audio Dynamite, introducing reggae to the punk generation and directing countless award-winning videos. Gaudi & Don Letts started work as a production duo shortly after they came together to create ‘Outta Sync’, Don’s first solo album produced by Gaudi. The pair were musically bonded by the project and in its wake have gone on to produce/remix for UB40, Caravan Palace, EMF, Dub Pistols, Johnny Clarke, Kid Loco, Inner Circle, Terry Hall, Meatraffle and now, in a seemingly unexpected but inspired move, Seun Kuti feat. Damian Marley.

Sometimes two plus two makes more than four, Gaudi & Don Letts deliver a killer beat n’ bass heavy floor-filler!
